Unless you're using the right type of knife, bread can be a tad difficult to cut through. This blade is scalloped, and its design allows the bread to be cut and not smashed as long as you use a sawing motion. The sharp points on the edge are what allows the blade to cut through bread so easily by breaking through the crust.
